Academy of Country Music Awards Tickets - A Few Nods to Name by Brent Warnken

The nominations have just been announced, and now all country music fans have to do is wait to see which of their favorite artists, among them Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift, Julianne Hough, Kenny Chesney and more, will win. Leading the pack is Paisley, who caught six awards with former Trick Pony's Heidi Newfield getting five.

The announcement came Wednesday, February 11th with Jessica Simpson, LeAnn Rimes, Kellie Pickler and Julianne Hough revealing the news via CBS' The Early Show.

A surprised Hough even heard her name being called live, giving her a nomination for Top New Female Vocalist, marking it as just another list of things in her "amazing year and a half" run, which saw her touring with Paisley and George Strait, who earned a nomination for his "I Saw God Today" Song of the Year, as well as Entertainer, Top Male Vocalist and Video of the Year. "I'm definitely very fortunate," Hough continued on The Early Show. "Everybody has been so welcoming." Unlike rivalries and "beefs" that R&B stars have with one another (Chris Brown even has trouble dealing with girlfriend Rihanna), the country music scene is much different everyone welcomes one another with open arms, recently including Dancing with the Stars veteran Hough and American Idol winner Carrie Underwood in more recent years.

Among the other heavy nominees is Jamey Johnson, who is up for Top New Male Vocalist, Singer Record of the Year and Song of the Year for "Color," and is nominated for the first time as an artist (he was previously nominated, and won, for Song of the Year for Strait's "Give It Away"). Though Johnson is the forerunner, the most talked about nomination comes in the form of female and former American Idol winner, Underwood.

Though she has long since shed her claim to fame, she is finally earning her title as she picks up a nomination for Entertainer of the Year, the first in several years in which a woman has been nominated in the category. Behind Underwood, only seven females have won the award, the most recent being the Dixie Chicks in 2000 followed by Loretta Lynn and Reba McEntire.

The recently criticized Simpson looked content as she made the announcements with her new county family. "Honestly, I am right where I'm supposed to be. I am so happy," Simpson said, shelving rumors that her recent "weight gain" is getting her down. "Right now I'm on tour with Rascal Flatts and having a blast." Not only that, but she and beau Tony Romo still seem to be hot and heavy as his season has come to an end.
